Love Parade is a popular festival and parade that originated in 1989 in Berlin, Germany. Often called "The greatest amateur circus on Earth", Love Parade is the central happening for millions of electronic music fans around the world. The center of the parade is the Siegessäule (Victory Column) in the middle of the park, and the golden angel atop the column has become a symbol of the parade.
Many people from different parts of the world come to Berlin to take part in Love Parade. In the years 1997 through 2000 over a million of people visited the Parade. In 2004 and 2005 the parade was cancelled due to financial difficulties. In 2006, German exercise studio McFit helped parade come back. That year Love Parade saw its highest attendance - over 1,200,000 people visited Parade! Unfortunately Love Parade for 2007 was cancelled.
Music played at Love Parade is mostly trance, house and techno music. There have been some attempts to introduce other styles of music, but they have failed. Hardcore and gabber styles of music were played at the Parade in early years, but later they were removed.
Love Parade has also gone worldwide. There were several Love Parades in different parts of the world, including: Acapulco, San Francisco, Santiago, Tel Aviv, Mexico City, Leeds, Vienna and others. Love Parade officially continues on in San Francisco, USA.
